What Is Obagi Blue Peel?

Like other chemical peels, the Obagi Blue Peel causes the top layers of damaged skin to peel away, leaving smooth, undamaged skin at the surface. Although the Blue Peel is primarily designed for the face, you can also use it on your neck, chest, back, arms, legs, and hands. It is particularly effective in minimizing the appearance of

• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Acne scars and other minor scarring

• Uneven skin tone and texture

The primary ingredient in the Obagi Blue Peel is trichloroacetic acid. This acid can penetrate the skin more deeply than the acids used in other chemical peels, resulting in more dramatic rejuvenation. 

Obagi Blue Peel Treatment

Prior to treatment at our Rancho Cucamonga office, Dr. Mateja may recommend a specific regimen to help prep your skin for the peel. During the peel itself, she will apply one to four layers of the Obagi product. The Blue Peel contains a blue pigment to ensure total coverage across the treatment area. In some cases, Dr. Mateja may provide a topical anesthetic prior to beginning the peel. The entire process should take about 30 minutes.

Blue Peel Recovery 

Because the Obagi Blue Peel is a non-invasive process, side effects are minimal. Your top layer of skin will begin to slough off, revealing the fresh, unblemished skin beneath. Peeling may last for up to ten days. You may experience some minor inflammation and redness, which you can usually minimize with hydrocortisone cream. During this initial healing time, be sure to keep your face clean, avoid direct sunlight, and use sunscreen when you do go outside.

Most patients can return to work the next day, although some may choose to take time off or work from home if they are concerned about the look of peeling skin.
