Zoom!™ Teeth Whitening System
If you have been thinking of a future with whiter teeth, you are not alone. Millions of people seek out teeth whitening treatments every year - but are all teeth whitening treatments the same? In actuality, your experience may vary greatly depending on the type of treatment you receive. Cosmetic dentist Sharon B. Mateja offers Zoom!™ teeth whiteningat her Rancho Cucamonga practice. Zoom!™ offers a clinically-proven way to whiten your teeth safely and more efficiently than ever before.
What Is the Zoom!™ Teeth Whitening System?
The Zoom!™ teeth whitening system is a specially branded teeth whitening treatment technique, developed by Phillips and made available to qualified cosmetic dentists worldwide. Unlike other teeth whitening treatments that rely solely on one primary whitening source, Zoom!™ offers a one-two whitening punch of both a topical hydrogen peroxide gel solution and ultraviolet (UVB) light working together to deliver a brighter and whiter smile.
What Is the Zoom!™ Teeth Whitening Procedure?
Your procedure will start with your dentist covering your gums and lips to protect them. Then, the dentist will coat your teeth in the topical hydrogen peroxide gel, which is activated by the UVB light to penetrate your tooth enamel and work lift underlying stains. In all, this should take around 30 to 45 minutes.
In addition to this in-office procedure, your dentist may also recommend a simpler take-home version of Zoom!™ in order to follow up on your treatment in between dental appointments.
Am I a Good Candidate for the Zoom!™ Teeth Whitening System?
If your natural teeth have become discolored, whether it’s due to age or staining foods and beverages, you are likely a good candidate for Zoom!™ teeth whitening. Still, there are some factors that could be an issue:
- Prominent Porcelain Veneers or Dental Crowns - If you have visible porcelain veneers, dental bonding, or porcelain dental crowns, teeth whitening treatments may not be the best option for you. This is all for the simple reason that teeth whitening treatments only change the color of natural tooth enamel, not dental materials like porcelain and composite resin. Because porcelain veneers and other treatments are usually custom-made to match your natural teeth, you could end up with a mismatched set of teeth.
- Sensitive Teeth - Many tooth whitening treatments including Zoom!™ can cause tooth sensitivity, due to the the chemicals working their way through a patient’s tooth enamel. While this effect is temporary, it can be heightened and even painful for patients who already suffer from sensitive teeth.
- Intrinsic Stains - If you have intrinsic stains, which affect the inner layers of the teeth, you may be a better candidate for an alternative treatment. Porcelain veneers are fabrications that can be placed over the front of teeth to mask tooth discoloration. Dental bonding material can also be applied to the teeth to hide stains.
If you have any concerns, be sure to alert your dentist and discuss them ahead of time. Your dentist can assess your unique situation and determine if you would benefit from teeth whitening or an alternate type of treatment.
